2010 ALGIERS FOOTBALL HANDICAP SWEEPSTAKES

The season begins: 9/04/2010 and concludes following the completion of the 2011 bowl games.

The AFHS Pool: This pool is an 18-week contest, divided into three – 6-week sessions. The object is to pick the most winners on 20 football games each week (typically, 10 college games and 10 pro games). Picks are against a spread. The spread used, when available, is the first one published in the daily edition of the New Orleans Times Picayune newspaper. If a spread is not available from the paper, the spread available from VegasInsider.com (on the Internet) is used.

The Cost:

1.       Payment Options:

a.        By Session:

1.        Fees are due, along with your play sheet, the 1st week of each session (the 1^st, 7^th, and 13^th weeks) – NO EXCEPTIONS.

1.      The cost is $65 per session per Play Sheet (no ‘quantity discounts’ for playing multiple sheets). $60 of the fee is for the prize fund. $5 per session additional cost is added to the end-of-year money. You MUST pay in order to play – NO EXCEPTIONS.

2.       Partial Session payments are not allowed.

3.       Place both your play sheet and your funds in a sealed envelope.

4.      If a member forgets to pay, they are given a one-week grace period to turn in the money. Failure to do so will result in the removal from the pool. Any money previously paid is forfeited. ONLY ONE ‘GRACE’ PERIOD IS ALLOWED PER YEAR.

b.        By Year: A member will, submit the amount due for the balance of the year ($180).

2.       Payment must be in cash (checks accepted upon approval). Credit card payment is not accepted. No registration will be accepted over the Internet.

Registration:

1.      By submitting a Play Sheet the first week, you will be entered in the pool. Only those submitting Play Sheets the first week with the first session fees enclosed (see above under ‘The Cost’) are registered (no late entries accepted). Make sure your play sheet for the first week includes your name (required), phone number (required) and Handle (optional). Please put the phone number you can be reached at the easiest. If a Handle is not specified, your name is used.

2.      If you win and owe money for upcoming sessions, the money won will be applied to the upcoming session(s). The cost of each session is $65. Once all fees are paid, any money won will be paid to the designated player.

Playing:

1.       Play sheets are provided every Tuesday at J&K Bar. Play sheets are also available from the website.

2.      Obtain the Play Sheet, make your selections, put your name, handle and phone number on the play sheet, and turn in the half with your name at J&K Bar. Play sheets must be turned in no later than 11:00 AM on Saturday. Anyone who fails to turn in a sheet by that time will receive 20 forfeits (F 20) for that week, but still be allowed to play as their monies are prepaid.

        NOTE: BECAUSE CHRISTMAS FALLS ON A SATURDAY THIS YEAR, THE PLAY SHEETS THAT WEEK WILL BE DUE BY 6:00PM, FRIDAY, DECEMBER 24!

a.      Please, if you are not submitting money, do not put your picks in envelopes, do not staple and do not use tape. If you feel you must secure your sheet, use paper clips. Only the pool administrator has access to the drop box and no sheets are collected until after the deadline.

b.      There is no need to 1) fold the sheets as though you were folding notes to pass to your sweetheart in High School or 2) wad them in a ball. Please submit flat, unfolded (or single folded) sheets.

3.       Check the standings…collect any money you are owed…drink a beer and be happy.

4.      CANCELLED/POSTPONED GAMES: If a game is postponed, but played within the week (Saturday – Friday), the game will count. If the game is postponed past the Friday deadline, or is cancelled, the game will be a scratch.

5.     HURRICANE CLAUSE: It is possible that a hurricane could disrupt the posting and/or playing of one or more pick sheets. If this happens, the week will be cancelled. The missed week (or weeks) may still be played as ‘standalone’, $5 entry, pools. Every attempt will be made to make up the missed weeks during the remainder of the season.

Posting of picks:

1.      The pool administrator will post his filled in primary play sheet each week at J&K Bar at 11:00 each Saturday morning (prior to picking up submitted sheets). No other pick sheet picks will be posted there. The sheet will not be posted on the Internet site.

Payouts:

1.      Weekly winnings are paid on Tuesday each week. Session and Yearly winnings are paid at the end of the year.

2.      No more than three forfeits are allowed for the year to qualify for the Wildcard or Last Place money.

Challenges: There is no change in the ‘rules’ related to grading challenges. If you are unfamiliar with those rules, please contact the pool administrator.
